Kansas City, Missouri - Circa 1881 Looking North-Northwest with the bend of Missouri River in the background. The Union Elevator shown in this photograph is the second Union Grain Elevator. The first elevator was destroyed by fire in December of 1873. If this elevator was still standing today an approximate address would be about 800 Woodsweather Road. The Missouri River has signs of floating drift wood which indicated the river is rising. Yhis sould be the starting of the 1881 Flood Original image published in the book, "Historic Street Scenes of Kansas City, Missouri, 1867-1931," by Raymond S. Elder, featuring the Val B. Minton Photographics Collection, page 15.
