Woodlawn Cemetery, images of selected tombstones by Donald Rl. Hale. Attached to the photo of Mrs. Jane's tombstone is a note apparently written by Mr. Hale: Kachinga, the Kaw Chief, visited Independence with his band annualy in the Autumn for persimmons which they made into a kind of bread. The band decreased yaar after year until in the 50's then came only Kachinga and his two squaws. The weather grew cold and the old chief took pneumonia and died. The body was placed in a pine box and buried in a shallow grave near Woodlawn Cem. The grave cannot be located.
