From the scrapbook of James M. Anderson, ca. 1917. View down Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri. "Main Street, Looking North from Missouri Avenue. This picture was taken about 1865 Immediately on the right is the first home of "Emery, Bird and Thayer Dry Goods Company", style then "Bullene Bros." Further down on the same side is seen the first City Hall, a small, two-story, brick structure, and present hall occupies its place. To the left at 5th Street you see Frank's Hall in the course of building, and now standing. On the right, beyond the City Hall, at the corner of 4th Street, is the old Mastin Bank. At 3rd Street, the crown of the hill , were the Bon Ton retail stores at that time."
