Battle of Lone Jack Marker
Jackson County marker, "Battle of Lone Jack". Here early on the morning of August 16, 1862, two thousand Confererates surprised and defeated a detachment of Federal cavalry under the command of Maj. Emory S. Foster. Foster, seriously wounded, finally surrendered in the afternoon after 43 men were killed and 75 were reported MIA.
