Business building on West Lexington Avenue on Independence Square. A horse and buggy are at the curb, and several shoppers are on the sidewalk. Identified are the offices of Rider Real Estate and Loan Company, Charles Q. Rider, Joseph Tilford Noland, Clarence Duffendack, Minerva Shook, Walter Rider. Another original photo in the file names Bill Penney, Amy Botts' husband. Another source gave the name of Will Ramsey in place of Bill Penny. Horse & buggy owned by Rider and Company used to show real estate to clients. First National Bank building at far right. This photograph was published in the Independence Examiner 23 January 1980 and had the following caption: Sturges and Duffendack Jewelers and Opticians (advertising School Supplies and School Books prominently in their window display) shared quarters with Walter Rider and Company Real Estate and Loans. First National Bank, on the far right, was on the corner of Liberty and Lexington. The Knights of Pythias was housed above the bank.
