The Hanging Tree in Westport at 42nd Terrace and Washington

In Westport, a huge oak stood along Washington Street just north of 42nd Terrace in Kansas City, Missouri. It was known as “the hanging tree.” It is known as a site where African-Americans were lynched in Kansas City. The tree was cut down after it was damaged in an ice storm.
