Pacific House Hotel

From the scrapbook of James M. Anderson, ca. 1917. "Pacific House at SE Corner 4th and Delaware. Built by Robt. Hall in 1858-60. It opened business that year, and was the most modern hotel in the city, and largely patronized. In Oct. 1861, Gen. Sturgis took possession, and used it as a barracks for two years. Gen. Ewing then established headquarters, and it was here that the orders No. 10 and 11 were written. In May, 1866, the hotel was turned over to the Halls. It was partly destroyed by fire in 1867, but rebuild on what was at that time a grand scale, with all the conveniences, and was again the leading hotel for years."
