On October 12, 1932, Sni-A-Bar Farms in Grain Valley, founded by William Rockhill Nelson, had a massive BBQ to celebrate the completion of the Jackson County highway system. In the photo, a pit master in his apron looks over the in ground pit. Between 40,000 to 50,000 people were said to have attended the event. Special guest of honor was Judge Harry S. Truman, who oversaw the $10 million dollar county highway system project.
