Dedication of an historical marker for The Battle of White Oak Creek, August 18, 1862. Marker reads, "Two troops of Union Cavalry headed by Colonels Jennison and Pennock approached across the level fields of the valley to engage 160 Confederate troops of Colonel Upton Hays who were encamped along both sides of the creek and among the timber and rocky bluffs. 8 Federals and 1 Confederate coldier were killed in the Civil War battle."
