Charles E.Kearney' residence, at Main Street & Westport Road."Kearney Home, Front view of old Kearney Home, corner of Main and Westport Avenue, built by John Harris, his father-in-law, in '56, on land Harris bought in '34, and finished by Col. Charles E. Kearney, in presnt shape, during last of war. Kearney was prominent in Santa Fe trade, having an outfitting store with Wm. Bernard on Westport Avenue, next to Harris' house, and afterwards in Kansas City at the foot of Delaware Street. In 1867 he was prsident of the K.C. Bridge Co., and Cameron Railroad, and built latter in to Kansas City. Kearney, Missouri, is named for him. Kearney Home. Rear view; corner of Westport Avenue and Main Street. Building was occupied by soldiers during part of war. Now owned and occupied by Thos. W. Johnson, for many years chief editor of the Kansas City Star."
